Army Helicopter Fleet Grounded for Safety

Pilots ordered to stand down until they attend mandatory safety training.

The U.S. Army recently announced that its pilots will be required to complete a safety-training program, and pilots will be grounded until this mandatory program is completed. This decision, made by Army Chief of Staff General James McConville, followed fatal helicopter crashes – two Apache helicopters collided in Alaska, and two Black Hawk helicopters collided in Kentucky – which occurred during training flights.

General McConville stated the training program “will focus on safety and training protocols to ensure our pilots and crews have the knowledge, training, and awareness to safely complete their assigned mission.”

The stand down and training must be completed by all active-duty aviators as well as the Army Reserve and National Guard units. General McConville added, “Commanders may return their troops to flight status once they report they’ve completed the stand down.” Troops currently participating in critical missions retain their authorization to fly but must complete the training.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For General McConville as he fulfills his role as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army.
  • For wisdom for Secretary Christine Wormuth as she leads the Army branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • For Secretary Austin to seek God’s direction as he heads the Defense Department.
  • For the families mourning those who died in the helicopter collisions.
